Small in size and big on adventure, Costa Rica is full of thrilling experiences waiting to be discovered. Want to know why we’re so excited for our first adventure to this tiny nation, tucked between Nicaragua and Panama? Read on and practice un poco de español.
To start, it’s an ecological paradise. If you’ve ever wanted to swim in the crystal clear waters of a tropical waterfall, relax in thermal hot springs, or peer into the depths of an active volcano – Costa Rica has it all.
Nearly 30% of the country is dedicated national parks and wildlife reserves. The biodiversity includes howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, scarlet macaws, blue morpho butterflies, and humpback whales. Costa Rica is one of the top five sites in the world for turtle watching. Animal lovers (like us) take note.
Costa Rican people (or ticos/as) are widely known to be some of the happiest, friendliest people in the world. It seems everyone here has embraced the ‘pura vida’ (pure life) lifestyle. We can’t wait to have our local guides show us around their country and meet some of the people who get to call this place home!
The country’s abundance of both sun and rain, along with its lush terrain, brings to life many different crops. Papaya, mango, avocado, pineapple, bananas and plantains are enjoyed here as an important staple in the traditional Costa Rican diet. Costa Rica is also the sole producer of several blends of award-winning coffee. In fact, it is highly likely your favourite brew was grown on one of its volcanic slopes! So yeah, we’re pretty excited to try the local produce.
La Playa y Los Volcanes
Costa Rica’s picture-perfect beaches are world-renowned, with more than 1,000 miles of gorgeous coastline divided between the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Being a long narrow country, both travellers and locals are lucky enough to have the opportunity to enjoy explore beaches up and down both coasts.
Costa Rica is also scattered with 14 active and inactive volcanoes. Not only do they bring natural beauty, but they speckle the country with various hot rivers and springs where you can relax and reconnect with nature. Packing our swimmers now.
Of course there are a few signature experiences we had to include on our seven-day itinerary. 1. Trekking! all Inspired Adventures include a physical challenge and with landscapes like Costa Rica has, it’d be a crime not to get out and see them on foot.
2. A sloth sanctuary! We had to include a visit to this safe haven which rescues, protects and rehabilitates sloths to learn about their work and meet the sanctuary’s oldest resident sloth, Buttercup!
