On the Aspect Hike for autism China 2020 you’ll trek the Wall and raise funds to help create a world where no-one on the autism spectrum is left behind.
Are you ready for a life-changing adventure? The Aspect Hike for autism China is your chance to step outside your comfort zone, see one of the world wonders and, best of all, make sure everyone on the autism spectrum has the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
Winding its way across the north of China, from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi Desert, the Great Wall of China stands as one of mankind’s most impressive architectural accomplishments.
As part of this adventure, you’ll travel through history to the very heart of China’s ancient culture. Over five days, you’ll trek between mist-covered mountains, into local villages, across rolling farmlands and through dense forest on some of the most spectacular sections of this iconic structure.
With the support of expert guides, and the camaraderie of like-minded teammates, you’ll tackle the Great Wall and get a taste of China’s culture while raising funds to help provide the best opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to participate, engage and thrive in the world around them.
Autism is a lifelong developmental condition characterised by difficulties in social interaction, communication, restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours, and sensory sensitivities. No two people on the autism spectrum are alike, and all have unique strengths and interests.
The word spectrum reflects the wide range of challenges that people on the spectrum experience and the extent to which they may be affected. An estimated 1 in 70 Australians are on the autism spectrum; that is around 353,880 people. Along with their family members, this means autism is a part of daily life for over a million Australians.
The quality of life for many children and adults can be significantly improved by an early diagnosis and appropriate evidence informed treatment.
The funds you raise on this adventure will enable Aspect to provide early intervention therapies, allow children to attend our Aspect schools or ensure adults with autism have opportunities to get involved with their communities.
