Take on the Portugal to Spain Coastal Camino Trek with Breast Cancer Care WA to raise money so that more people affected by breast cancer can access tailored support services at no cost to them.
The Breast Cancer Care WA Portugal to Spain Coastal Camino Trek is a chance for our #breastfriends in WA to take on an extraordinary adventure and raise funds to help more people affected by breast cancer receive tailored, practical support at no cost to them.
Sounds like an adventure for you? Here’s what’s in store:
First, you can choose between an 8-day and 13-day adventure to suit your schedule. Both groups will converge in A Guarda, Spain, just over the border from Portugal and complete their Camino together. Those on the 13-day adventure will start from Porto, Portugal’s lively port city.
The Portuguese Coastal route is one of the lesser-travelled routes for adventures to Santiago de Compostela and has spectacular seaside setting, winding in and out of woodlands and small villages. Like the other routes, it’s been travelled for hundreds of years by Romans, explorers, and modern day adventurers alike.
As you make your way for either 6 or 10 days across northern Portugal and Galician Spain, you’ll enjoy captivating coastal landscapes and warm local hospitality. Completing your trek in Santiago de Compostela, you’ll receive your official pilgrim certificate and raise a glass to the wonderful achievements of the whole group.
This life-changing experience is not only your chance for an extraordinary adventure, it will help Breast Cancer Care WA give more support to more people as increasing levels of diagnoses mean our services are needed now, more than ever.
By joining the Portugal to Spain Coastal Camino Trek, you’ll help more people affected by breast cancer access specialist breast care nursing, counselling and financial services.
Breast Cancer Care WA believes in giving practical, personalised support to people affected by breast cancer, including carers and family members.
That might be one-on-one support with one of our counsellors, a support group targeted at a specific stage in the breast cancer journey or a workshop such as art or clay therapy.
Breast Cancer Care WA can also assist with financial support to reduce the economic burden of a cancer diagnosis when necessary – such as help with a utility bill, assistance in applying for a financial hardship grant, a fuel voucher to help clients pay for petrol for transport to treatment, or a food voucher to fill the pantry for a week or two when their treatment means income has been limited.
Your support could also help provide practical assistance such as help with childcare, transport to and from appointments or help with house cleaning or gardening.
Breast Cancer Care WA’s services are offered free of charge to anyone in Western Australia or their families and carers who are currently facing a breast cancer care diagnosis. Every dollar counts, and here’s how:
- $50 will put a tank of fuel in the car to get to and from treatment appointments.
- $75 can provide a few house cleans for clients who are unable to lift anything heavier than a loaf of bread after surgery.
- $100 could help pay a utility account for families who are struggling financially and need our help to keep their services connected.
- $200 could help stock a pantry and fridge and keep a family of four nourished for a week.
- $500 could help alleviate financial stress and relieve a mortgage repayment for someone who is unable to work during treatment.
