The Hike for Hospice is an extraordinary trekking adventure on the Great Wall of China that will raise funds to help Waipuna Hospice provide compassionate hospice care and make every moment count for local patients, their family and whānau.
On the Hike for Hospice, you’ll travel through history to the very heart of China’s ancient culture as you trek along the Great Wall, one of mankind’s most impressive architectural accomplishments. Over five days, you’ll trek some of the most spectacular sections of this world wonder, some parts reclaimed by the forest, others restored to their original magnificence. You’ll also get a chance to discover Beijing, and explore the modern contrasts of this bustling city.
You’ll have the adventure of a lifetime alongside a like-minded team of people all united by a sense of adventure and giving back.
While Waipuna Hospice services are provided at no cost to patients and families, it costs a lot to provide. As an essential health provider, 52% of Waipuna Hospice services are contracted from the District Health Board, but they’re not guaranteed. This means financial support from the community is essential to meet the shortfall of approximately $4.25 million this year. Funds raised from the Hike for Hospice will help meet this need.
