New York City wears many crowns, and for a good reason. It’s a destination that people dream of visiting; a true city slicker’s delight. It is also home to one of the best and most iconic road marathons in the world.
It’s true – just walking through this awe-inspiring city is an incredible experience. Now picture yourself pounding the pavements of this concrete jungle on Team Leukaemia Foundation in the 2017 New York City Marathon.
As you run from Staten Island to Manhattan and cross the Queensboro Bridge, you’ll feel yourself digging deeper as you push yourself to reach that finish line in Central Park, millions of people on the sidelines cheering you on.
Not only will you have completed the New York City Marathon, you’ll also have raised the vital funds to help the Leukaemia Foundations vision to beat blood cancer.
More than 60,000 Australians are living with blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood disorder.
Every day another 35 people will be diagnosed. That’s one person every 41 minutes.
Sadly, every two hours someone will lose their life.
Blood cancers can’t be surgically removed so treatment usually takes much longer than for other cancers. Even when treatment is over the person may have long-lasting health problems. They will almost certainly feel its impact for the rest of their life.
The money you raise on the Leukaemia Foundation’s TCS New York Marathon 2017 will give families the emotional and practical support they need, and fund research to help more Australians live longer and have a better quality of life.
The Leukaemia Foundation relies on the generous support of people like you to raise money to help people live longer and better.
Your compassion, generosity, determination and fundraising will mean we can stand beside Australians throughout their gruelling blood cancer journey from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
We will also be able to keep funding promising research into treatment breakthroughs so that families will benefit profoundly in the future.
