Trek for my Rafiki in Sri Lanka and discover this breathtaking region, all while raising funds to help heal and empower children who have experienced traumatic abuse.
Sri Lanka is a land of lush forests, white sandy beaches, tea plantations and wondrous ancient architecture. Steeped in ancient Buddhist and Hindu traditions, here you will also find magnificent palaces and monasteries dedicated to spiritual worship.
On this incredible adventure, you’ll join your team in trekking through some of the most beautiful sections of Sri Lanka including Udawalawe, Haputale and Horton Plains National Park. Along the way, you’ll stop to cool off at waterfalls and soak in the surrounds, and learn more about Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture.
Beginning in Colombo, you’ll explore this thriving city. Look for unique treasures at the Pettah Bazaar markets, savour the aromatic flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine at one of the city restaurants or visit one of the many sacred temples.
This adventure also includes a special project visit to the Rekawa Turtle Hatchery, where you have the chance to observe marine turtles in their natural habitat and help ensure their eggs hatch safely. At the Udawalawe National Park, you will head off on a thrilling safari and witness more of the region’s colourful wildlife in its natural habitat.
The funds you raise on this adventure will help Rafiki Mwema cover special projects such as the independent living transition program for our children approaching adulthood and ongoing therapy.
Rafiki Mwema is committed to supporting the children who have experienced things we could not even imagine and that many adults chose to turn a blind eye to. We help them to heal their trauma and grow to love, be loved and become safe and loving adults.
We are committed to understanding and repairing the intense trauma our children have experienced. Through Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), a therapeutic parenting model, we help our children make sense of their past. We train and develop our Kenyan staff to ensure our children receive the very best therapeutic care and support and educate the local communities, schools and government officials to understand the impact of childhood abuse.
We provide support and information of this specialised therapeutic model to service providers globally.
