The Stroke Foundation’s Hike for Health is an epic trekking adventure that will see you explore the Great Wall of China to raise funds to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.

On the Hike for Health, you’ll explore the ancient heart of China as you trek the Great Wall and uncover this beautiful part of Asia.

You will begin your journey in the bustling capital of Beijing as an immersion into Chinese culture. You will have the opportunity to see some of the sights, explore the Forbidden City and learn of the solemn history of Tiananmen Square.

The physical challenge begins when you make your way to Taipingzhai Gate and embark on a five day trek across some of the most famous segments of the Great Wall. Some of these segments have been unchanged for centuries and others restored to their original glory. You’ll be in awe of its architectural magnificence and soon understand why it is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Along the way, be immersed in the history of the ancient world, get a taste for local life and develop an appreciation for this beautiful country.

With the support of your fellow teammates and expert guide, you’ll challenge yourself and make lifelong memories, while making a positive difference to those impacted by stroke.

In 2020 there will be almost 56,000 new and recurrent strokes, that is one stroke every 9 minutes.

Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. It kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. Stroke attacks the brain, the human control centre, changing lives in an instant. Yet this disease can mainly be prevented, it can be treated and it can be beaten. With your support the Stroke Foundation will partner with the community to raise awareness and work to prevent, treat and beat stroke. By signing up to the China Trek, you will not only be reducing your own risk of stroke by exercising, you will also raise much needed funds for the Stroke Foundation.
