On this experience, you’ll immerse yourself in Uganda’s natural surroundings while also learning more about the culture and taking an active role in helping to improve the lives of local women and refugees.

Come with us on a life-changing trip to Uganda, a journey that will enrich and expand your understanding and transform the lives of refugee women.

Women and girls are key to developing their communities, and they are often the first defence for children in danger – however in crisis, women and girls can also be the most vulnerable. Frontline UNHCR staff are often first in and last out in an emergency, helping women overcome the trauma of displacement and giving access to vital services and life-changing support.

We know that when women are safe and independent again, they raise children that are too. If you ever wanted to do something transformative and that makes a difference to women and children and their communities, this is it.

Over 10 inspiring days, you will travel with a group of like-minded and influential Australian women, including Naomi Steer, the Founder and National Director of Australia for UNHCR.

Together you will experience the fierce beauty of Uganda, and gain new insights into UNHCR’s humanitarian work in East Africa. You will directly engage with, and learn from resilient refugee women, including beneficiaries of our education and livelihood projects. An expert facilitator will work with your group to draw out powerful insights and social leadership learnings as you meet and work with leading women entrepreneurs in these communities.

This is a unique opportunity. There is no other way to join a field mission with the UN’s Refugee Agency and it’s not for the faint hearted – this is a journey for champions of real change, women leaders of substance and deep emotional intelligence. We think you are up for the challenge.

As part of the Leading Women Uganda Trip you can become a powerful advocate for refugee women and girls.

The Leading Women Fund provides vital services and life-changing opportunities for displaced women and girls. The fund is all about women helping women overcome the barriers of gender inequality that can make them highly vulnerable in situations of conflict and displacement.

The funds you raise will support transformative education and livelihood projects in Uganda. You can help provide education to refugee children, restoring a sense of normality and routine. UNHCR also funds projects to empower girls through academic support and extracurricular activities. Funds raised will also go towards the António Guterres Refugee Community Centre in Kampala which we will visit as part of the trip.
