The Difference You'll Make

Final-Logo

Over 100,000 Australians live with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis—chronic conditions that are significantly underfunded, limiting access to treatments and high-quality care.

At Crohn’s Colitis Cure (CCCure), we’re on a mission to change that by transforming patient outcomes and driving research toward cure.

Our innovative platform, CCCare, is the only one of its kind. By streamlining treatment processes, CCCare empowers nurses to spend more time focusing on patient care. This trek is raising funds to optimise our Advanced Therapies Module, which will digitally declutter the therapy administration process for IBD nurses, and improve access to life-changing medication.  Our long term vision is to provide free CCCare platform access, and scholarships for IBD nurses for even better care.

Join us on a journey to Tasmania’s iconic Bay of Fires. Trek along pristine beaches, white sands, and striking orange boulders, surrounded by crystal-clear waters. This unforgettable experience isn’t just about connecting with nature, it’s about making a meaningful difference.

Trip notes

We depart Launceston and head out to Binalong Bay where we’ll ease our way into our first trek through coastal health and eucalypt forest. Along our walk through the Humbug Point Nature Recreation Area, we’ll see an abundance of wildflowers, orchids and xantheria. If we’re lucky, we may see Australian fur seals perched upon granite boulders! After some lunch, we’ll continue trekking along this well-protected trail and finish in Moulting Bay, an important wetland and breeding site for black swans and migratory seabirds.

Accommodation: 4-star hotel

Trekking distance: 11 km

Today’s hike is an interesting mix of changing landscapes within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area’s secluded beaches, dark tannin-stained lagoons, and contrasting stretches of pebbly shoreline. Beginning at Policeman’s Point, we usually spot many species of bird which congregate around the outlet of Ansons Bay, including pelicans, cormorants and oystercatchers. After a stretch of soft sand walking, we reach the first segment of Pebbly Beaches which features numerous 1km long stretches of coastal cobblestones. There is some rock scrambling along the way, so be prepared - trekking poles are highly recommended. Shortly after, we reach another stunning expanse of white sandy beach. This area is so remote you’re unlikely to notice any signs of people. Regular granite headlands are crossed once again, each guarding their own hidden pocket of paradise. Somewhere along the path, we will select a suitable lunch spot, and perhaps take the opportunity for a swim. A little while after passing over a forested hill, we will reach The Gardens, the end point of our hike today.

Accommodation: 4-star hotel

Trekking distance: 13 km

Today’s walk is packed full of highlights! We start our day at larapuna/Eddystone Point, adorned with a grand lighthouse that was built in 1889 from locally quarried pink granite. This natural promontory is a fascinating site of historic importance to both European and Aboriginal Tasmanians. Leaving the lighthouse, we break out onto an expansive dune-swept beach often teeming with birdlife.

The remainder of the day is spent enjoying seemingly endless coves, each worthy of their own picture-perfect postcard. There are numerous shelly beaches to inspect, and lovely small bays for swimming. This area also boasts some of the more interesting rock formations of the trip, awaiting decipherment by your imagination. We continue south along more beautiful rocky headlands with coastal wattle, pigface and saltbush aplenty - and countless white beaches! We’ll come across dune-swept beaches before finishing at Ansons Bay where we’ll cross a shallow inlet to meet up with the bus.

Accommodation: 4-star hotel

Trekking distance: 10 km

This morning we pack our gear and head off to the Blue Tier Regional Reserve. Our trek today looks different to our past treks - we’ll be walking through lush Beech myrtle forest with plenty of alpine species. This trail begins and ends at the Stockyard Campground, located at the end of Poimena Road and traversing a diverse array of vegetation. We can look forward to an incredible variety of mosses and ferns!. The track can get quite wet and muddy in certain areas, so hiking boots are recommended for today’s walk. We will return to Launceston at approximately 5 pm. Please book your return flights home after 6:30 pm.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete several day hikes. You should aim to be comfortable walking in sandy and hilly terrain for 5+ hours, and then be ready to do it again the next day!
