Trip notes

Day 1, Thursday, 14 November 2024: Merimbula to Boyds Tower to Lake Curalo

Day 1, Thursday, 14 November 2024:
Merimbula - Boyds Tower to Lake Curalo

We depart Merimbula at 8.15am and head south stopping en route for morning tea at Eden. The Bundian Way Story Trail begins at Cocora Beach, where we will trek through native fauna rich with sweeping coastal views over Twofold Bay. We can expect wildlife encounters and to learn about the beautifully crafted stories about the people who have walked the trails for thousands of years. Stopping by the Budginbro Lookout, we'll continue to walk the sandy beach concluding at Quarantine Bay.

We then head to Eden enroute to Lake Curalo for an afternoon walk. The boardwalk and walking track meanders around the lakeshore, through swamp melaleuca forest, across salt marsh and over the shallow water where you can see reeds, fish and many species of bird life before you reach the estuary mouth.

Whales frequent the area from late May to early December so it’s a great time for whale watching while walking along the trail. After the day’s walk, we head back to Eden for a well earned dinner before we retire at our accommodation.

Day 2, Friday, 15 November 2024: Boyds Tower to Saltwater Creek to Leather Jacket Bay

Day 2, Friday, 15 November 2024:
Boyds Tower to Saltwater Creek - Leather Jacket Bay

After breakfast, our trek today undulates south past spectacular coastal forest, sandy beaches, rocky bays, sheltered inlets and ocean platforms. Leather Jacket Bay offers a scenic stretch of red rocks, coloured by iron oxide which cemented the sand particles together many millions of years ago, while small and peaceful Mowarry provides a picturesque sandy beach.

There are plenty of spots along the trail to rest and relax, or to enjoy a spot of birdwatching. Be sure to keep your eyes open for the endangered ground parrots or rare striated field wrens. There is a myriad of other wildlife so if you are lucky, you might catch sight of echidna, kangaroo or goanna in the area. After the day’s walk, we enjoy another delicious dinner and time spent with our teammates.

Day 3, Saturday, 16 November 2024: Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay

Day 3: Saturday 16 November 2024
Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay

After breakfast, we begin walking today where we finished yesterday and head south along the stunning Light to Light trail. The walk from Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay is a gently undulating section. It passes through lovely sections of coastal forest, heath and rock platforms. As usual, we'll be looking out for the many spectacular creatures that call this area home and enjoying the challenge of the coastal terrain. Tonight, we'll share our last dinner as a team and prepare for our final day of walking.

Day 4, Sunday, 17 November 2024: Bittangabee to Green Cape and Haycock Bay to Barmouth Beach

Day 4, Sunday, 17 November 2024:
Bittangabee to Green Cape and Haycock Bay to Barmouth Beach

Today we have two shorter walks including the last section of the Light to Light Walk and a short scenic walk just north of Eden. This last section of the Light to Light follows a route that has been travelled by lightkeepers over many years. Originally, supplies for the lighthouse were off-loaded at Bittangabee Bay and remnants of the old horse-drawn tram track still remain.

We travel north, stopping en route to Merimbula for our last walk of the trip – the spectacular Haycock Bay to Barmouth Beach walk. This pleasant walk follows the headland on the southern shore of the Pambula River estuary. Offering spectacular views along the pristine coastline of the NSW far south coast, this walk captures the remote beauty of Beowa National Park. On this walk pass through a range of landscapes from windswept heath to woodlands while taking in views of rugged rock formations and dramatic cliff lines. From here we head back to Merimbula. We aim to be back in town by approximately 4.30-5pm so if flying out after the tour please do not book flights before 6.30pm.

Of course, most people do! Throughout your adventure journey, we will connect you with your fellow adventurers so you can get to know each other before you hit the road.

Fitness and training

How do I train for this adventure?

We will provide you with information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete several day hikes. You should aim to be able to walk in hilly terrain for 5+ hours comfortably and get up and do it again the next day.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek.

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation on this adventure is twin-share in lodge-style accommodation with a bathroom and all linen provided.

Will I be sharing accommodation?

Accommodation on this adventure is based on twin-share. You will be paired with a teammate of the same gender and, whenever possible, age group. Single supplement is subject to availability and at an additional cost.

What to expect

I have dietary requirements, will I be catered for?

Of course, we will happily arrange for any dietary requirements you’ve noted during booking to be catered for. Please advise your local guide on Day 1 as well. You will be fed very well while you’re on the adventure, but if you have a very specific dietary requirement or severe allergies, often it’s best to pack some extra things as back-up.

What happens if there is a medical emergency?

Providing the safest possible environment is our highest priority and we have an outstanding safety record. All Inspired Adventures guides are first aid trained and well-equipped to handle any medical emergencies.

What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising target?

It’s normal to worry you won’t meet your fundraising target, but we know you can do it. In fact, with the support of Inspired Adventures, almost everyone goes on to raise far more than they imagined.

By registering for the adventure, you agree to raise the minimum fundraising amount specified. Like you, we are looking to make a significant impact for our charity partners, so the goal is for each person to have met their fundraising target before departure. If you fail to raise the minimum fundraising target by this time, we will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we fundraise together?

Absolutely! Fundraising with a friend is a great idea. Just remember the fundraising target is per person, so you will each need to meet the minimum fundraising goal to participate. We know you can do it.

Will the funds raised go directly to MND NSW

Yes, all of your fundraising will go directly to MND NSW. Only the travel costs are payable to Inspired.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
