The Difference You'll Make

MND VIC Three Peaks VIC 2027

On average, every day two Australians are diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), and every day two Australians die from it. MND Victoria exists to change what this diagnosis means — providing vital care, equipment, and support to people living with MND and their families, when they need it most.

As the only not-for-profit organisation in Victoria offering care and support to those impacted by this devastating disease, MND Victoria has spent over 45 years delivering and growing life-changing services. Your support helps fund everything from mobility aids and respiratory equipment to support groups, education sessions, and home modifications — preserving dignity, independence, and connection.

By joining the Three Peaks trek in Victoria’s High Country, you become part of this impact. Over three days, you’ll summit Mt Timbertop, Mt Stirling, and Mt Buller — traversing alpine trails, snow gum forests, and open ridgelines with sweeping 360-degree views. Each climb is challenging, rewarding, and shared with a community united by purpose.

Every step you take on the mountain helps fund care that makes everyday life more possible for people living with MND. From a walking stick that improves stability, to a wheelchair that restores mobility, your fundraising directly changes lives.

Trip notes

Important note: This is a self-drive itinerary. You will need to make your own way to/from the Victorian High Country (Mt Buller) and to the trails each day.

We begin our adventure by meeting the group at the Timbertop Saddle Picnic Area and trailhead near Mansfield at 1:00 pm.

Our first challenge is the ascent of Mt Timbertop, one of the Victorian Alps' most iconic peaks, instantly recognisable by its broad, flat summit. The trail meanders through towering Manna Gum forest, where native birdlife and wildlife are often encountered, before emerging above the treeline to reveal breathtaking views across the surrounding alpine ranges and valleys. As you approach the summit, magnificent Snow Gums frame the landscape, providing the perfect setting to pause, take in the scenery and celebrate your first peak before descending.

After the hike, we'll make our way to our exclusive private ski lodge in Mt Buller, where we'll spend the next two nights. This evening, unwind with a welcome drink before enjoying a delicious dinner prepared by our private chef exclusively for our group—a memorable way to toast the beginning of our Victorian Alps adventure.

After breakfast, we set out for another spectacular day in the Victorian Alps as we take on the ascent of Mt Stirling.

Our walk begins beneath the towering Alpine Ash forest, following picturesque trails to the iconic Craig's Hut, one of Australia's most recognisable High Country landmarks. From here, we continue via The Monument before tackling a rewarding climb through beautiful Snow Gum woodland to the summit of Mt Stirling. Along the way, we'll pause to enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch surrounded by the stunning alpine scenery.

Reaching the summit is a true highlight, with breathtaking 360-degree views stretching across the Victorian Alps and surrounding mountain ranges. Our descent follows the network of cross-country ski trails, passing historic High Country huts that offer a glimpse into the region's rich alpine heritage.

Returning to our private ski lodge in the afternoon, you'll have time to relax, refresh and reflect on the day's achievements before gathering once again for another delicious dinner prepared by our private chef.

Our final day begins with an early start as we set out to conquer the last of our three peaks. Warming up along Mt Buller's scenic Nature Walk, we'll follow trails that weave beneath silent chairlifts and across alpine ski slopes, offering sweeping views of the surrounding High Country.

From here, we begin our final ascent to the summit of Mt Buller. The climb is a rewarding challenge, and reaching the top is the perfect way to celebrate everything you've accomplished over the past three days.

After descending, we'll gather for a well-earned lunch before saying our farewells and beginning the journey home. For those returning to Melbourne, arrival is expected at approximately 6:30 pm, bringing an unforgettable Victorian Alps adventure to a close.

This adventure is ranked 3.5/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Victorian Three Peaks Challenge is a physical challenge, involving trekking in hilly terrain for up to 7 hours over 3 consecutive days. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How many people will be on my adventure?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures average between 10 - 20 participants, connected by their commitment to the greater good.

Can I join an Inspired Adventure on my own?

Of course, most people do! Throughout your adventure journey, we will connect you with your fellow adventurers so you can get to know each other before you hit the road.

What is the general age range of participants?

The minimum age for this adventure is 18, however younger ages are considered on application. We have had participants aged 16–84+ take part in our challenges, all united by their sense of philanthropy and adventure.

I have dietary requirements, will I be catered for?

Of course, we will happily arrange for any dietary requirements you’ve noted during booking to be catered for. Please advise your local guide on Day 1 as well. You will be fed very well while you’re on the adventure, but if you have a very specific dietary requirement or severe allergies, often it’s best to pack some extra things as back-up.

Do I have to carry my own bag?

On most adventures, you'll only need to carry a day bag with essentials for your day of activities. Your luggage/big backpacks will either stay at your accommodation, be transferred to your next accommodation, or will be carried by porters.

Who is Inspired Adventures?

MND Victoria has partnered with Inspired Adventures to bring you this adventure of a lifetime. Over the last 20 years, Inspired Adventures has taken over 8,000 people, just like you, on adventures all around the world, raising over $52 million for important causes. How do I train for this adventure?

We will provide you with information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete a full day hike and if possible, get up and do it again the next day. You should aim to be able to walk in hilly terrain for 6-8 hours comfortably over consecutive days.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek.

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation on this adventure is twin-share in a ski-lodge and you can expect all of the usual amenities.

Will I be sharing accommodation?

Accommodation on this adventure is based on twin-share. You will be paired with a teammate of the same gender and, whenever possible, age group. Single rooms are available at an additional cost and subject to availability.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we stay together?

Absolutely! If you’re travelling with a friend, please make note of this and we will pair you together.

How is my luggage transported?

You will only need to carry a day-pack with you each day. Your main luggage will be transported between accommodation for you.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising target?

It’s normal to worry you won’t meet your fundraising target, but we know you can do it. In fact, with the support of Inspired Adventures, almost everyone goes on to raise far more than they imagined.

By registering for the adventure, you agree to raise the minimum fundraising amount specified. Like you, we are looking to make a significant impact for our charity partners, so the goal is for each person to have met their fundraising target before departure. If you fail to raise the minimum fundraising target by this time, we will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we fundraise together?

Absolutely! Fundraising with a friend is a great idea. Just remember the fundraising target is per person, so you will each need to meet the minimum fundraising goal to participate. We know you can do it.
