The Difference You'll Make

In the past 10 years, breast cancer diagnoses in Australia have increased by 21%. Each day 57 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer and 9 people lose their lives to this disease.

Funding world-class breast cancer research is more important than ever the help NBCF reach it's vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. NBCF has been funding vital medical research since 1994 and progress is being made. In this time, the death rate from breast cancer in Australia has reduced by over 40% in large part to continued investment in world-class breast cancer research. NBCF funds research to better understand how to prevent and detect breast cancer early, how to stop the progression and recurrence of breast cancer, how to effectively treat hard-to-treat and metastatic breast cancers and ultimately - save lives. The more we raise, the more research we can fund.

Every step you take and dollar you raise will move Australia one step closer towards Zero Deaths and could save the lives of thousands of women and men who will be diagnosed with the disease.

Together let’s Trek Towards Zero!

Today, after a hearty breakfast, we start our trek. We will be walking mainly on forest paths. As we leave Moyne, we start to gain some altitude and will be amazed by some stunning scenery in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. Day 3: Friday, 23rd May 2025 - Glenmalure to Glendalough

This morning, we wake up in the U-shaped glacial valley of Glenmalure, which at over 16km is the longest glacial valley in the UK and Ireland. Today is a short day, for good reasons. This will allow you to gain altitude in your own time to make the most of the spectacular scenery in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains and it will also allow you some time to explore the world renowned heritage site of Glendalough, in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Day 4: Saturday, 24th May 2025 -  Glendalough to Roundwood

Today is another short and pleasant day. We leave the Glendalough Valley on forest trails as we skirt by the village of Laragh. We can step off The Wicklow Way here if you wish to explore this lively village with a choice of shops, restaurants and bars. From Laragh to Roundwood, we will be walking along a mixture of forest trails, mountain paths and boreens.

Day 5: Sunday, 25th May 2025 - Roundwood to Enniskerry

Day 5: Sunday, 25th May 2025 - Roundwood to Enniskerry

Today our path takes us along the top of mountains with amazing views of both surrounding mountains and the coast. As we leave Old Bridge we ascend the ridge around Lough Dan looking down on to the location where the television series ‘Vikings’ was filmed. This is the perfect vantage point to view Loch Tay, a dark brown peaty lake, flanked on one side by a white sandy beach - resembling a pint of Guinness (fittingly this area is owned by the Guinness family). From this point we once again head north, through forests over White Hill and on to the exposed moorland of Djouce Mountain (one of Wicklow’s best known mountains). As we descend off Djouce, we will be able to see the Powerscourt Estate and its waterfall, before finishing our walk at our accommodation in the Glencree Valley.

Day 6: Monday, 26th May 2025 - Enniskerry to Marlay Park, transfer to Dun Laoghaire/ Dublin

Day 6: Monday, 26th May 2025 - Enniskerry to Marlay Park, transfer to Dun Laoghaire/ Dublin

Today is another great day of walking over mountain tops and along forest tracks. With the city of Dublin beginning to come into view, our destination is within reach. When we arrive at the Cairn (a man-made pile or stack of stones at the top of a mountain) at Two Rock, we can see the whole of Dublin City and Bay in one impressive panoramic vista. From this point it will be all downhill until we reach the beautiful Georgian estate of Marlay Park where The Wicklow Way finishes. Originally Marlay Park was a walled manor house with over 300 acres of land. It is an idyllic location for tea or coffee before making our way to Dun Laoghaire. Tonight we celebrate over our last team dinner and reminisce about the beautiful memories we have made together.

We will provide you with information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete several day hikes. You should aim to be able to walk in hilly terrain for 6-8 hours comfortably and get up and do it again the next day.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek.
