For more than 160 years, the Women’s has built its reputation as one of Australia’s most loved and trusted public hospitals by providing exceptional patient care and advocating for better health outcomes for women and newborns.

The Women’s focuses on giving women and newborns the best possible chance of the best possible outcome, providing leading care in specialist maternity, neonatal, gynaecology, oncology, reproductive and sexual health services to women in Melbourne, as well as those with complex needs across Victoria and Australia.

On the Peaks of Hope 2025: Climbing for women and newborns, the funds you raise will help to create healthier futures for women and newborns.

Donations could help in ways such as:

  • $20 - can help fund a care pack, providing NICU parents with essentials so they can focus on caring for their baby.
  • $50 - can give a premature baby a fighting chance at life, by helping to buy life-saving equipment for our Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
  • $70 - can help fund a Pepi-pod so mothers and babies can sleep safely together.
  • $100 - can help fund education programs to overcome challenges associated with menopausal symptoms.
  • $150 - can help provide a mobile code response trolley ensuring babies get the critical care they need when they need it the most.
  • $250 - can provide a researcher with the tools to develop life-changing treatments for women and babies in our care.

Trip notes

Note: This adventure is delivered by a licensed Eco-Pass Operator, Peak Learning.

You will make your way to Perisher for the start of our adventure. You will need to arrive in the late afternoon (check-in is from 3 pm), in time for our welcome drink and team briefing at 6 pm to prepare to summit five of Australia’s highest mountains. Following this, we will all enjoy our first meal together. Be sure to get an early night - we have a big day ahead of us!

Accommodation: Ski lodge

Meals: D

Today’s the big day! We depart our lodge after breakfast and take a 15-minute drive to Charlotte Pass, the starting point of our trek. We start by descending to the Snowy River which we cross via stepping stones. However, if the water levels are high, we may need to wade through knee to waist-deep water. From the Snowy River, we climb steadily towards Blue Lake enjoying views of the deepest of five glacial lakes. We continue upward towards our first peak, Mt Carruthers (2,145 m) with stunning views across to Victoria and NSW, as well as the western fall, dominated by the Sentinel. The section of the trail here is just magnificent as we trek along the Main Divide where we enjoy rugged landscapes, distant views, and beautifully sculptured glacial lakes. After two hours of walking, we reach the summit of Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m). After photos and a celebration, we descend to Rawson’s Pass. We then trek cross-country and climb our third peak, Etheridge Ridge (2,180 m), before descending to Seaman’s Hut. The final section of the walk is fast as we follow the well-graded Kosciusko summit road back to Charlotte Pass. We return to our lodge, tired but proud of our achievements, and celebrate over a group dinner together.

Accommodation: Ski lodge

Trekking distance: 22 km

Meals: B L D

This morning we drive back to Charlotte Pass and head east to the summit of Mt Stilwell, where we see glorious views of the Main Range and the route we took on yesterday's walk. We then continue towards Perisher along a new trail that flows through the alpine valleys and rugged landscapes of Kosciuszko National Park. As we walk, we’ll have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful views of high-country plains, snow-capped mountain ranges and clear-flowing rivers. We’ll also have the chance to see unique animals and plants that make this area special, like ancient snow gums, summer wildflowers, wombats and echidnas. We then take a short scramble to the summit of Porcupine Rocks, where we get a glorious view of the Thredbo Valley, before returning to our accommodation at Perisher Valley for our final evening together.

Accommodation: Ski lodge

Trekking distance: 13.5 km

After breakfast and a sad goodbye to our new friends, it is time to make our way back home, taking with us an incredible accomplishment and memories that will last a lifetime.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The NSW Five Peaks Challenge is a physical challenge, involving trekking approximately 31 - 35 kilometres over two days. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How many people will be on my adventure?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures average between 10 - 20 participants, connected by their commitment to the greater good.

Can I join an Inspired Adventure on my own?

Of course, most people do! Throughout your adventure journey, we will connect you with your fellow adventurers so you can get to know each other before you hit the road.

What is the general age range of participants?

The minimum age for this adventure is 18, however younger ages are considered on application. We have had participants aged 16–84+ take part in our challenges, all united by their sense of philanthropy and adventure.

I have dietary requirements, will I be catered for?

Of course, we will happily arrange for any dietary requirements you’ve noted during booking to be catered for. Please advise your local guide on Day 1 as well. You will be fed very well while you’re on the adventure, but if you have a very specific dietary requirement or severe allergies, often it’s best to pack some extra things as back-up.

Who is Inspired Adventures?

The Royal Women’s Hospital has partnered with Inspired Adventures to bring you this adventure of a lifetime. Over the last 19 years, Inspired Adventures has taken over 8,000 people, just like you, on adventures all around the world, raising over $48 million for important causes. When you choose to travel with Inspired Adventures and The Royal Women’s Hospital, you can be confident you’re in the best hands.

Who will be delivering the tour?

This adventure is delivered by a licenced Eco-Pass Operator, Peak Learning.

How do I train for this adventure?

We will provide you with information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete a full day hike. You should aim to be able to walk in hilly terrain for 8+ hours comfortably.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek.

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation on this adventure is in a ski lodge based on twin or multi-share (depending on the lodge). You can expect all of the usual amenities.

Will I be sharing accommodation?

Accommodation on this adventure is based on twin or multi-share. You will be paired with a teammate of the same gender and, whenever possible, age group. Single rooms are available at an additional cost and subject to availability.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we stay together?

Absolutely! If you’re travelling with a friend, please make note of this and we will pair you together.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising target?

It’s normal to worry you won’t meet your fundraising target, but we know you can do it. In fact, with the support of Inspired Adventures, almost everyone goes on to raise far more than they imagined.

By registering for the adventure, you agree to raise the minimum fundraising amount specified. Like you, we are looking to make a significant impact for our charity partners, so the goal is for each person to have met their fundraising target before departure. If you fail to raise the minimum fundraising target by this time, we will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we fundraise together?

Absolutely! Fundraising with a friend is a great idea. Just remember the fundraising target is per person, so you will each need to meet the minimum fundraising goal to participate. We know you can do it.
