The Difference You'll Make
For more than 160 years, the Women’s has built its reputation as one of Australia’s most loved and trusted public hospitals by providing exceptional patient care and advocating for better health outcomes for women and newborns.
Every year, thousands turn to the Women’s for specialised care - from high-risk pregnancies and premature births to life-saving neonatal treatment and support for women experiencing trauma, illness or family violence. But demand continues to grow, and your support is vital to help the hospital provide life-changing care when it is needed the most.
By fundraising for the Women’s, you’ll help support the areas of greatest need, providing life-changing care and equipment for women and babies. Your impact could help purchase recliners so families can enjoy kangaroo cuddles, provide safe accommodation for mothers and babies experiencing family violence through the Cornelia Program, deliver counselling for survivors through CASA House, and ensure NICU families receive the essentials they need to stay close to their little ones during the most challenging days of their lives. With your support, the Women’s can continue creating healthier futures for every woman and baby in their care.
On this once-in-a-lifetime trek, you’ll explore pristine coastlines, hidden coves and vivid orange lichen-covered rocks beside crystal-clear waters. Along the way, you’ll forge meaningful connections, uncover local stories, and walk with purpose alongside a group of passionate, like-minded adventurers.

Trip notes
We depart Launceston and head out to Binalong Bay where we’ll ease our way into our first trek through coastal heath and eucalypt forest. Along our walk through the Humbug Point Nature Recreation Area, we’ll see an abundance of wildflowers, orchids and xantheria. If we’re lucky, we may see Australian fur seals perched upon granite boulders! After some lunch, we’ll continue trekking along this well-protected trail and finish in Moulting Bay, an important wetland and habitat for black swans and migratory seabirds.

Today’s hike is an interesting mix of changing landscapes within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area – consisting of secluded beaches, dark tannin-stained lagoons, and contrasting stretches of pebbly shoreline. Beginning at Policeman’s Point we usually spot many species of bird which congregate around the outlet of Ansons Bay. These may include pelicans, cormorants and oystercatchers. After a stretch of soft sand walking, we reach the first segment of Pebbly Beaches – featuring numerous 1km long stretches of coastal cobblestones. There is some rock scrambling along the way, so be prepared - trekking poles are useful for the beach sections, but you’ll need two hands for rock scrambling! Shortly after we reach another stunning expanse of white sandy beach which is so remote you’re unlikely to notice any signs of people. Regular granite headlands are crossed once again – each guarding their own hidden pocket of paradise. Somewhere along here we will select a suitable lunch spot, and maybe take the opportunity for a swim. Passing over a forested hill, it’s not much further until we reach The Gardens, our end point of the hike today.

Today’s walk is packed full of highlights. We start our day at larapuna/Eddystone Point – adorned with its beautifully grand lighthouse, built in 1889 from locally quarried granite. This natural promontory is a fascinating site of historic importance to both European and Aboriginal Tasmanians. Leaving the lighthouse, we break out onto an expansive dune-swept beach, often teeming with birdlife.
The remainder of the day is spent enjoying seemingly endless coves – each being worthy of their own picture-perfect postcard. There are numerous shelly beaches to inspect, and lovely small bays for swimming. This area also boasts some of the more interesting rock formations of the trip, awaiting decipherment from a creative type’s imagination. We continue south along more beautiful rocky headlands, with coastal wattle, pigface and saltbush aplenty and countless white beaches. We’ll come across some dune-swept beaches before finishing at Ansons Bay, crossing a shallow inlet to meet up with the bus.

This morning we pack our gear and head off to the Blue Tier Regional Reserve. Our trek today looks different to our past treks, walking through lush Beech myrtle forest with plenty of alpine species. This trail begins and ends at the Stockyard Campground at the end of Poimena Road, traversing through a wonderful range of vegetation as we make our way to the summit of Mt Poimena (816m). There is an incredible variety of mosses and ferns. The track can get quite wet and muddy in certain areas, so hiking boots are recommended for today’s walk. We then return to Launceston at approximately 5 pm. Please book return flights home after 6:30 pm.
