The Difference You'll Make

Every day, 703 million people worldwide live without access to clean water. Without safe water, decent toilets, and good hygiene, communities face the constant threat of disease, malnutrition, and lost opportunities for education and work. Access to clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene are human rights, yet for millions, these basic needs remain out of reach.

WaterAid Australia is committed to changing this by working alongside communities, governments, and organisations to deliver sustainable water and sanitation solutions, ensuring people have reliable services that last for generations. Through infrastructure projects, hygiene education, system strengthening, and policy advocacy, WaterAid helps break the cycle of poverty and empowers people to build healthier, more secure futures.

You can be part of this vital work by taking on an unforgettable challenge - WaterAid’s Trek for Water in Queensland. Over three days, you’ll hike through breathtaking landscapes, climb Mount Cordeaux and Mount Mitchell for panoramic views, and immerse yourself in an authentic Indigenous experience with Yarriba, learning about the Dreaming stories of the region.

Trip notes

This morning we’ll meet our guides in central Brisbane where we will have a briefing for the days to come. We’ll hop in our vehicles and head to Mt Barney where we’ll spend the day for the Yarriba Walking Together tour. This program will take us on an exploration of ancient landscapes, including a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, walks, origin stories, and learning about survival and hunting techniques. Afterwards, we’ll be transferred to our accommodation for the night and have a team dinner together.

Accommodation: 3-star motel, twin share

Transfer time: 2.5 hours

Meals: L D

This morning after breakfast, we’ll set off for our first summit of this adventure and make our way towards Mt Cordeaux - the northern side of Cunningham’s Gap, overlooking the Scenic Rim. We’ll follow the walking track up the mountain, passing by an abandoned goldmine shaft where gold was never found. The track ends just before the summit and we’ll be rewarded for our efforts with showstopping views of the Main Range National Park, the Darling Downs, and even the high-rise buildings of Brisbane in the distance. We descend the mountain and join the Rainforest circuit, venturing through lush vegetation and climbing to an incredible lookout point serving up views of Lake Moogerah and the Fassifern Valley. This evening we return to our accommodation for an evening at leisure before our final dinner together.

Accommodation: 3 star motel, twin share

Transfer time: 1 hour

Trekking distance: 9km (4 hours)

Meals: B L D

On our last day, we’ll head off after breakfast to Mt Mitchell, a volcanic peak in the Main Range National Park to the south of Cunninghams Gap. Today we’ll be conquering its summit, and while some parts of the track are quite steep, we can rest assured that the views from the top make every step worth it! Cross through mountain heath, woodland and diverse rainforest, and be sure to turn your head to the sky in search of peregrine falcons soaring above you. We make a stop at the top to admire views of Mt Barney, the Main Range and the Moogerah Peaks while having lunch, before descending down the mountain. This afternoon, we’ll make our way back to Brisbane where our adventure ends and we say goodbye to our team and guides!

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the answer to your question? Get in touch via email (info@inspiredadventure.com.au) or phone (1300 905 188). We’re always here to help!

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Scenic Rim trek is a physical challenge, involving trekking approximately 20 kilometres over two days. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How many people will be on my adventure?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures average between 10 - 20 participants, connected by their commitment to the greater good.

Can I join WaterAids Trek for Water on my own?

Of course, most people do! Throughout your adventure journey, we will connect you with your fellow adventurers so you can get to know each other before you hit the road.

What is the general age range of participants?

The minimum age for this adventure is 18, however younger ages are considered on application.

I have dietary requirements, will I be catered for?

Of course, we will happily arrange for any dietary requirements you’ve noted during booking to be catered for. Please advise your local guide on Day 1 as well. You will be fed very well while you’re on the adventure, but if you have a very specific dietary requirement or severe allergies, often it’s best to pack some extra things as back-up.

Who is Inspired Adventures?

WaterAid Australia are working with Inspired Adventures to bring you this adventure of a lifetime. Over the last 20 years, Inspired Adventures has taken over 8,000 people, just like you, on adventures all around the world, raising over $50 million for important causes. When you choose to travel with Inspired Adventures and WaterAid Australia, you can be confident you’re in the best hands.

How do I train for this adventure?

We will provide you with information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete several day hikes. You should aim to be able to walk in sandy and hilly terrain for 5+ hours comfortably and get up and do it again the next day.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek.

What is the accommodation like?

You will be staying in motel accommodation based on twin-share, set within a private nature refuge. Each room has a bathroom containing a toilet, shower and basin. Each room also contains a microwave, mini fridge, kettle and toaster.

Will I be sharing accommodation?

Accommodation on this adventure is based on twin-share. You will be staying in self-contained motel accommodation. You will be paired with a teammate of the same gender and, whenever possible, age group. Single supplements are subject to availability at an extra cost.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we stay together?

Absolutely! If you’re travelling with a friend, please make note of this and we will pair you together.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from WaterAid through the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising target?

It’s normal to worry you won’t meet your fundraising target, but we know you can do it. In fact, with the support of WaterAid and Inspired Adventures, almost everyone goes on to raise far more than they imagined.

By registering for the adventure, you agree to raise the minimum fundraising amount specified. We are looking to make a significant impact for WaterAid Australia's mission, so the goal is for each person to have met their fundraising target before departure. If you fail to raise the minimum fundraising target by this time, we will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we fundraise together?

Absolutely! Fundraising with a friend is a great idea. Just remember the fundraising target is per person, so you will each need to meet the minimum fundraising goal to participate. We know you can do it. If you are accompanied by a support person, both of you will have an individual and team fundraising page. While the support person is not required to raise the $3,500 themselves, they are expected to assist you with your fundraising activities to help achieve your fundraising goal. Additionally, the support person is welcome to raise funds independently if they wish to help support people who are blind or have low vision.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Donations of $2 and above for WaterAid Australia are tax deductible for Australian residents only. A deduction cannot be claimed for donations or purchases that include significant personal benefits or tangible items such as raffle tickets, auction items or tickets to a fundraising event.

How much does it cost to participate in this adventure?

The total cost to participate in this adventure is $1,770 which is inclusive of:

  • Registration fee: $290 (non-refundable after 5 days)
  • Travel cost: $1,480 (includes a $475 non-refundable travel deposit)

It is up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you will need to share these details with our team before departure. Seqwater

Seqwater has supported WaterAid Australia’s mission for more than 15 years and we’re committed to continuing to make a difference so people around the world can have access to clean water sources close to home. Seqwater teams from across our operations walked to raise awareness and funds for WaterAid’s Walk for Water 2024. We raised over $9,200, and walked, ran, and cycled a remarkable 1,072km as a team to raise awareness and funds for WaterAid!

I participated in Walk for Water again this year! Millions of people still don't have access to clean water, and every year I walk so that one day, they won't have to. It’s always great to see our water industry get behind this initiative every year!
