There has been a marked increase in organisations that are looking for new and innovative ways to foster a great work culture, motivate and incentivise their employees, and give back to the community. Underwriters DUAL Australia partnered with fundraising and travel agency Inspired Adventure to do just that.
In April 2023, DUAL Australia sent a group of their employees on an epic challenge; climbing to the summit of three of Australia's highest peaks in only three days. Selected from a wide cross-section of teams and offices around the country, the team raised vital funds for Black Dog Institute, joining a movement of people who share a vision for a mentally healthier world. All funds raised went towards research, education programs, and innovation to make a real difference in the lives of people touched by mental illness and suicide.
Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at DUAL, Emily Coates, joined the adventure and raved about the experience.
"It was incredible! Many of the DUAL team work in different offices so it was their first time coming together and we all connected as if we’d known each other for years. We raised a total of $36k, well beyond anything we dreamed! Thank you to the Inspired team for making this such a successful trip." Emily Coates, DUAL Australia
DUAL opened the opportunity to all of their team across Australia and New Zealand. After seeing such a great interest in the adventure they decided to arrange an exciting game over Zoom where they randomly selected 10 lucky employees to join the adventure. DUAL's CEO, CSR leader, and a Black Dog Institute representative also joined. DUAL covered the cost of the Inspired Adventures management fee, travel costs of their employees, and the charity representative.
The participants ran several in-office events to boost their fundraising efforts and bring the wider team together. These included a pool competition and a clothing swap fundraiser. The events created much excitement for the trek to come and were great team-building opportunities for all involved.
The Inspired Adventures team played a vital role in facilitating fortnightly zooms between the team of employees to encourage and support fundraising efforts and answer any charity or trek-related questions. For most of the participants, this was their first time fundraising and trekking, so the support was greatly appreciated.
DUAL set an individual $1,500 fundraising target, with a team goal of $20,000. All involved went above and beyond in their fundraising, raising almost double their initial goal! DUAL also has a dollar matching program so they used that to promote more funds internally.
The experience of working with Inspired Adventures and Black Dog Institute made a significant impact for the DUAL team by creating team-building opportunities, increasing employee engagement, fulfilling CSR responsibilities, and raising vital funds and awareness for mental health.
Due to the huge success of the campaign and adventure, DUAL are planning to make this an annual trek!
