The Challenge

A 2021 study into mental health and wellbeing found more than one in five Australians aged 16 to 85 had experienced a mental health disorder in the past 12 months. Nearly half of us will experience it in our lifetime. Helping those people is behind everything the Black Dog Institute does.

When you take on the Black Dog Kokoda Track challenge in November 2023 you’ll be supporting them and their vision to create a mentally healthier world. People like you are the reason they can make a real difference to those living with mental illness.

But it won’t be easy. Regarded as one of the world’s greatest treks, the Kokoda Track links the south and north coast of Papua New Guinea across 165 kilometres (historically 96km) of rocky mountain terrain, tropical rainforest and remote villages. You’ll challenge yourself as you trek for nine days, following the track through mountain streams, up rugged jungle trails and under a thick canopy, retracing the steps of the Anzac soldiers.

As you walk side by side with fellow supporters of the Black Dog Institute you’ll be helping Australians with mental illness.

All help people better understand mental health and know how to seek help when they need it.
