Trip notes

Day 1: Depart Perth - Cape Naturalist to Yallingup

We meet early this morning in Perth CBD, and transfer to the start point of our trek. We begin our hike at Cape Naturaliste, the first section of the Cape to Cape Track. This starts with a gentle downhill stroll on the access-for-all section of the track to the stunning vistas of Sugar Loaf Rock. The track then runs along an extended section of carved limestone sea cliffs before reaching the coastal hamlet of Yallingup. This is a lovely section of the trail to get us into the swing of things! After our trek, we will transfer to our accommodation for the next two nights and enjoy a well-deserved dinner together.

Transfer Time: 3 ½ hours

Trekking Distance: 14km

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Ellensbrook to Prevelly

Today’s walk begins at the historic settlement of Ellensbrook. From Ellensbrook, the track quickly leaves the coast and wanders through sand dunes, past Ellensbrook homestead and Meekadarbee Falls. Visit the isolated coves of Gnoocardup and the turquoise bay of Kilcarnup. Marvel at the centuries-old osprey nest in Horseshoe Bay and then take in some of the world’s finest surfing coastline at Prevelly. We will rest up this evening before our final day of trekking tomorrow.

Trekking Distance: 12km

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Redgate Beach to Boranup Forest - return to Perth

In the morning, we will transfer to historic Redgate Beach for our walk to Boranup Forest. We begin at Redgate Beach – a local surfing and fishing favourite. Next is very likely one of the best sections of the Cape to Cape Track: the scenic coastal cliffs at Bob’s Hollow and Contos. Enter the majestic Karri forest, home to the world’s third tallest hardwood! The solid track underfoot and afternoon shade of the Karri forest make it all seem easy. Well done, you have completed this incredible challenge! After lunch, we transfer back to Perth. There will be a drop off at both Perth Airport (PER) and Perth CBD. If you are flying home today, please book flights that depart after 7:30pm.

About the adventure

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Cape to Cape trek is a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

Much of the trekking will be on soft sand, but other sections will be on rocky headlands.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

Who will I be travelling with?

Our average group size at Inspired Adventures ranges from 10 to 20 people. You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Can I join an Inspired Adventure on my own?

Of course, most people do! Throughout your adventure journey, we will connect you with your fellow adventurers so you can get to know each other before you hit the road.

What is the general age range of participants?

The minimum age for this adventure is 18, however younger ages are considered on application. We have had participants aged 16–84 take part in our challenges, all united by their sense of philanthropy and adventure.

Fitness and Training

How do I train for this adventure?

We will provide you with basic information on how to prepare for your adventure when you register. In addition, we recommend that you consult your GP and a personal trainer to develop a training plan that will prepare you for the challenge.

As part of your training, we recommend making use of your free time to complete a full day hike and if possible, an overnight hike. You should aim to walk in hilly country for 6-8 hours and get up to do it again the following day comfortably.

It is sensible to start training as early as possible before you go on your trek. Conventional exercise routines which build strength, fitness and stamina, such as aerobics and light weight training can be beneficial, particularly if your fitness level is less than ideal.

Accommodation

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation on this adventure is twin-share in 3- to 4-star hotels and you can expect all of the usual amenities. Bathrooms are shared but very comfortable.

Will I be sharing accommodation?

Accommodation on this adventure is based on twin-share. You will be paired with a teammate of the same gender and, whenever possible, age group. Single rooms are available at an additional cost and subject to availability.

I’m travelling with a friend, can we stay together?

Absolutely! If you’re travelling with a friend, please make note of this and we will pair you together.

What to expect

What is the food like?

Breakfast will alternate between continental and cooked breakfasts. For continental breakfasts, you can expect a spread of cereals, toasts, spreads, stewed fruit and yoghurt. Lunch will be a variety of fresh and healthy sandwiches and wraps, and fresh fruit and baked goods. Some dinners will be eaten at our accommodation, others at local restaurants. The menu is constantly changing but can include curry, pasta and seafood barbeques.

I have dietary requirements, will I be catered for?

Of course, we will happily arrange for any dietary requirements you’ve noted during booking to be catered for. Please advise your local guide and Team Leader on Day 1 as well. You will be fed very well while you’re on the adventure, but if you have a very specific dietary requirement or severe allergies, often it’s best to pack some extra things as back-up.

Is there mobile phone reception?

There is reliable phone reception during the majority of the trek, however it can be patchy in some spots. Usually Telstra is most reliable. Wi-Fi is available at our accommodation, but you may use this as a good opportunity to switch off and get back to nature.

What do I need to pack?

You will be sent a comprehensive packing list after you register for the adventure with everything you need to consider.

What will the weather be like?

During the trekking season, the weather averages between 20-26℃. Keep in mind there is very little shade on the track. As much of the trek is along the coast, it is exposed and so it is important to keep a close eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to your adventure.

Please check local forecasts in the weeks leading up to your adventure for up-to-date weather information as the seasons can be unpredictable and highly variable week to week.

What happens if there is a medical emergency?

Providing the safest possible environment is our highest priority and we have an outstanding safety record. All Inspired Adventures guides and Team Leaders are first aid trained and well-equipped to handle any medical emergencies.

How will you manage the risk of COVID-19?

See the COVID-19 section of our website for full details.
